our history

History
Kingvale was originally started in 2005 by 5 friends. Day Franzen, Jay Rydd, Shawn Durst, Mike Durst, William Ayer. They had the same dream most snowboarders do, to own their own park/mountain. That dream was realized when they acquired the lease on a closed ski area from the 60’s. The parks were open till 2011 season when the lease was disputed by the land owner. The dispute was a huge rent increase. Kingvale parks fought this legally for 2 years till funds diminished. Sadly the dispute was not winnable and the park had to close.

Today
Day Franzen reacquired the property as part owner with new partners. His dream never changed of making great affordable parks. He partnered with TowPro Lifts to get a new rope tow installed to bring the griffin back to life. Times have certainly changed in the snow industry and parks. The need for a affordable option for park customers to take laps has not changed though. Kingvale is back to offer the hot laps the kids want. Kingvale is Tahoe’s only Tow Park and offers great innovative layouts and features for a affordable price.
